Hurricane Helene Support
Bros, those of you who ran Blue Ridge relay or were thinking of going this year: western NC BRR route goes through is a complete disaster zone now – Burnsville, Boone, Asheville and lots of small towns and communities in between. Tens of people are dead, hundreds are unaccounted for, no power, no cell service, roads and houses destroyed.
Just few weeks ago @Dick Clark and myself along with lots of F3 pax from everywhere along the East coast have enjoyed the hospitality of exchange zones along our run route – elementary schools, churches, just random spots in the middle of nowhere manned by local volunteers, getting us food and water etc
2025 was supposed to be 25th year of BRR race celebration, but seeing the amount of damage – it’s even hard to imagine now all these broken communities can be put back together again!
I am reading BRR runners FB group and everyone is having hard time to even process what has happened.Here is the BRR Helene Relief page where they post about needs and updates and there is an option to donate.
If you have ran BRR before or were hoping to do it one day – plz consider donating.

VO2 Max Testing – 11/2 – 7:00 am @ WWP-HSS Track
I’d like to organize a workout to estimate VO2 max, which is perhaps the single best predictor of longevity (see attached paper). VO2 max is formally measured in a lab (usually on a treadmill or bike), which can cost $250+ and take weeks to schedule. It can be estimated using the Cooper Test, in which you run hard for 12 minutes or 1.5 miles, and the Rockport Test, in which you walk briskly for 1 mile (this requires measuring heart rate). We would run on the WWP-HSS track or another 400m track. Would a morning on the weekend of Oct 12-13 or Oct 26-27 work?
